Transforming an old, lifeless garden into a vibrant, functional outdoor space was the challenge we took on in this project. The original area was plagued by a crumbling structure, worn-out paving, and a lack of character. The client wanted a fresh, modern design that was not only practical but also a pleasure to spend time in. With new installations, a touch of greenery, and a complete reimagining of the layout, we turned this neglected space into a welcoming, stylish garden. Read on to discover how we made it happen.
The garden in its original condition was dull, grey, and lifeless, with worn-out paving stones and an uninviting atmosphere. A lack of greenery and years of neglect had left the space feeling more like a forgotten corner than a usable outdoor area.
We began the transformation by removing the dilapidated brick shed. With its rusted metal roof and crumbling walls, it was not only an eyesore but also a safety hazard. Clearing this structure opened up the garden, creating room for a more functional and visually appealing design.
In the shed's place, we introduced a sleek, modern wooden shed. This new structure offered the same storage capacity but in a much more compact and aesthetically pleasing form, freeing up space and enhancing the overall garden’s appearance.
Next, we dug out the existing paving and brickwork. The outdated, weathered slabs and stones had drained the garden of vibrancy. Removing these elements gave us a clean slate to work with, preparing the ground for the fresh, inviting design to come.
After clearing the space, we leveled the garden using topsoil to create a stable foundation for the new features. We also installed timber borders to define the space, creating a split-level design that added depth and structure to the layout. The addition of timber flowerbeds added a natural touch, ready to host new life and color.
The new planter beds were filled with the client's choosing of lush greenery, breathing life into what was once a dead, grey space. The vibrant plants added a stark contrast to the garden’s previous state, showcasing the dramatic transformation from neglected to flourishing.
To prepare for the new paving, we filled the lower garden area with scalpings and rotavated it to ensure a compact, solid base. This step was critical to ensure the upcoming slabs would be securely laid and have a lasting finish.
The transformation was completed by installing elegant slab paving in the lower area, with beautiful grey gravel filling the remaining space. A charming slab path led up to the new, modern shed, and a bright blue bench was introduced to the gravelled area, offering a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the garden’s stunning new look. The result is a sleek, stylish, and functional outdoor space, miles apart from its former self.
